What You Need to Know
Based in Cumbernauld, you’ll join a collaborative team of engineers, working closely with the Engineering Supervisor and the Hardware Design Team.
Your role involves assembling, wiring, and testing control systems, both in the workshop and on customer sites. You’ll be part of a team that reviews electrical drawings, plans layouts, and ensures systems meet high-quality standards.
This is a hands-on role with opportunities to contribute to system upgrades, site surveys, and commissioning plans. If you enjoy teamwork and have experience in control panel assembly, this role offers variety and practical challenges.
What We Are Looking For
Some of the Key Accountabilities:
- Understand and, at all times, comply with the instructions/requirements specified in published company Manufacturing Quality Systems and associated procedure documentation.
- Read/understand the content of electrical schematic/wiring diagrams and assist in the planning of cable, tray and component layout with the Design Engineers.
- Mechanical assembly of industrial control panel enclosures.
- Mounting of components and sub-assemblies.
- Panel wiring according to detailed electrical schematic diagrams (power + signal loops).
- Operate/use equipment and tools provided within the production area to perform basic mechanical fitting tasks including drilling, cutting, hole punching, wire stripping etc.
- Operate test equipment to diagnose component/system/procedural faults and take the necessary remedial action (i.e. Multi-meter, Beamex Multifunction Calibrator etc.)
- Act as a member of the Hardware Design Team to review diagrams & contribute to Installation and Commissioning plans.
- Assembly & wiring of basic field I/O simulation test racks from pre-built modular components (i.e. pulse, discrete I/O, 4-20 mA, RTD)
- Modification of existing control panels (including working on live panels) on customer sites to accommodate additional components/signals or address component obsolescence through replacement.
- Carry out site surveys on customer sites for existing system upgrade projects, to collect information required to facilitate hardware design.
- Involvement in Goods In/Out handling.
- Maintain a high level of personal discipline in the area of timekeeping, work performance and general conduct.
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the production area at all times.
- Any other delegated responsibilities as instructed by Line Management.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven track record in control panel assembly, wiring and testing (3+ years)
- Industrial site experience (ideally in offshore environment).
- Willingness to adjust personal schedule to benefit production demands.
Preferred
- Fully conversant with latest IEE regulations.
- Manual handling training.
- Lifting and slinging training, if appropriate.
- Safety awareness training.
- COSHH training.
- Risk assessment training.
- Strong IT skills – MS Office Packages.
- AutoCAD training.
- Full driving licenses.
- Offshore qualified.
